Smoke Free Clarksville

For those of our supporters that have been hoping for a smoke free ordinance, fear not that we have forgotten about Clarksville! The current situation is such that there is no ordinance being considered by the Clarksville Town Council nor have our attempts to gain additional support for the ordinance from the Council been successful.

Therefore, our current focus is a grassroots movement of local businesses. We have been reaching out to Clarksville businesses to ask them to voluntarily go smoke free. Our Smoke Free Labor Day 2008 campaign brought in 33 participating businesses that either were already smoke free or went smoke free for the day. In the process of recruitment, we had face-to-face meetings with managers and owners from over 80 businesses and even had contact with several corporate offices of chain restaurants encouraging them to not only participate in the one-day event, but also to understand the importance of smoke free workplaces. We will continue to follow up and work with businesses as much as possible.

What can you do?

Write a letter to the editor expressing your desire for smoke free dining, shopping, and working in Clarksville.
Fill out our fax/email form and forward to the Clarksville Town Hall. Click here to link to the form .
Talk to local business owners and managers about your desire to only visit smoke free businesses. ASK them to enact a smoke free policy- for the health of their workers and patrons. Call CCTPCC for fact sheets that show the reality of how smoke free businesses primarily see a better bottom line after enacting such a policy.
Talk to friends, family, and acquaintances about the need to continue to voice the desire for smoke free workplaces. Recruit them to talk to those within their circle of influence to further extend support throughout Clarksville and Clark County.
