Program Overview Tar Wars is a free tobacco education program that targets fourth and fifth-grade students. The program focuses on short-term, image-based consequences of tobacco use and how to critically analyze tobacco advertising. The program lasts about an hour and is given in the classroom. Students partake in discussion, activities and get some hands-on experience with some disgusting visual aids. The program also incorporates a follow-up poster contest to reinforce the message. Tar Wars is sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians with the specific goals of: - Educating and motivating students to be tobacco-free.
- Mobilizing health care professionals to become proactive in their community's health education.
- Encouraging community involvement in support of the Tar Wars Program.
